We all know that Norway is a big country, especially a long one distance wise, therefore it can even take days to reach all the way up to North! But that doesn't mean there is not much to see near Oslo. At this blog post we have prepared an exciting information for the upcoming travelers!
At Nordic Campers, we're your travel buddies, ready to unlock the beauty of this stunning country as you hit the road from Oslo Airport (Råholt) where the campervan is located. These top 5 destinations, all within a 5-hour drive, promise unforgettable experiences. From breathtaking viewpoints to magnificent hikes, these spots have it all. So, fasten your seatbelts and let's dive into the magic of Norway and it's nature wonders!

1. Stegastein: A Panoramic Marvel

Picture this: you're standing 650 meters above Aurlandsfjord, surrounded by unparalleled beauty. Stegastein, which is a part of the Norwegian Scenic Route, offers a panoramic view that'll steal your breath away. Autumn unveils its beatiful contrasting color pallette, while winter blankets the area in lots of snow. With Nordic Campers, you can capture this majestic scene and even camp nearby, soaking in nature's wonders.

TIP: Drive through Lærdalstunnelen-world's longest road tunnel, on your way to Stegastein. The tunnel is 24.5 kilometre long and links the municipalities of Aurland and Lærdal. The idea behind building the tunnel was to provide easier transportation connection between Oslo and Bergen: it saves the hassle of driving through steep mountain terrain in winter and taking the ferries.

To aid the mental strain on the drivers as well as to alleviate claustrophobia, the tunnel has been equipped with special lights to give an impression of sunrise. The tunnel is divided into four sections and separated by three large mountain caves in order to break the monotony of the 20-minute drive. Find more information and interesting facts about Lærdalstunnelen here.

2.  Vøringsfossen: A Waterfall's Symphony

Prepare for a symphony of nature at Vøringsfossen. Plummeting 182 meters, this waterfall showcases Norway's raw power. The waterfall is at its mightiest during spring and summer times as the mountains' snow melts and feeds the cascade. Nordic Campers is your companion as you admire the beauty of Vøringsfossen.

TIP: Experience Vøringsfossen from a different perspective by hiking down the Måbødalen valley. This hike is a wonderful opportunity to feel the waterfall's power at a close range. Due to weather conditions, it is recommended to do this hike between mid-May and October. Read more about the hike here.

3. Odda: Gateway to Adventure
In the heart of fjordland, you'll find Odda, a vibrant hub for adventure seekers. Home to the iconic Trolltunga hike, this region also boasts Folgefonna Glacier, Buarbreen Glacier, and the stunning Låtefossen waterfall. Nordic Campers provides the perfect base for exploration as you embark on unforgettable treks and immerse yourself in the enchanting surroundings.

TIP: Download the Park4Night app along the way and find the best options to park the camper for the night - even free! It will be your travel buddy in Norway. :)

4. Besseggen: Hiking Heaven

A hiker's paradise, Besseggen offers an extraordinary journey across a ridge with breathtaking views of Jotunheimen National Park. With Nordic Campers, you can park at Gjendesheim, ready to tackle the challenging hike and witness the contrasting colors of Gjende lake and Bessvatnet lake – an experience that remains etched in memory.

TIP: Take an alternative hike to Besseggen-Knutshøe, which stands right next to his big brother Besseggen. The advantages of hiking Knutshøe peak is that you will meet way less hikers on the way, and you will not need to take a boat as opposed to Besseggen. The views from the peak are just as stunning: you will get to see the surrounding mountains of Jotunheimen National Park, lakes Gjende and Nedre/ Øvre Leirungen and Leirungsåe river.

It is important to note that this hike should only be done in good weather conditions, and is not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo. Read more about Knutshøe hike here.

5. Galdhøpiggen: Summit Serenity

Standing at 2469 masl, Galdhøpiggen (2469 m) boasts the title of the highest mountain in Northern Europe. With Nordic Campers, you can park the camper and camp at Juvasshytta and prepare to conquer this majestic summit. Whether you're a seasoned mountaineer or a first-timer, the rewarding views from the top make it all worthwhile.

Galdhøpiggen's beauty comes hand in hand with challenging conditions. As you prepare for this ascent, remember to equip yourself with essentials. Sturdy hiking boots provide traction, while layered clothing ensures comfort amidst varying temperatures. A rainproof jacket and extra layers are prudent, even in summer. Pack ample water and energy-rich snacks to fuel your journey, and don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses to shield against the sun's rays at higher altitudes.
